Spring on the Southern Rivershore
千里莺啼绿映红，
Orioles sing for miles amid red blooms and green trees;
水村落山郭酒旗风。
By hills and rills wine shop streamers wave in the breeze.
南朝四百八十寺，
Four hundred eighty splendid temples still remain;
多少楼台烟雨中。
Of Southern Dynasties in the mist and rain.

汉措辞尤其是古诗词是重在表意、形象，而翻译成英语时不仅要把稳韵律，还要符合英语语法构造。在第一句“千里莺啼绿映红”中，“绿映红”实在是“莺啼”的地点，以是在翻译时要加上表位置的介词amid.“千里莺啼”变成当代汉语意思是“黄鹂的啼叫声传至千里以外”，以是翻译成Orioles sing for miles。第二句“水村落山郭酒旗风”，“水村落山郭”是地理位置，以是加位置介词by。“酒旗风”用当代汉语表达该当是“酒旗在风中飘展”，以是翻译成wine shop streamers wave in the breeze。第三句和第四句要放在一起翻译。“南朝四百八十寺”“多少楼台烟雨中”。乍一看许渊冲先生长西席的翻译，两句话都不完全。实在是许老为了追求韵律调换了词组的位置。Four hundred eighty splendid temples四百八十寺，Of Southern Dynasties 南朝的，以是Four hundred eighty splendid temples和Of Southern Dynasties连起来才是“南朝四百八十寺”。第三句中 still remain和第四句中in the mist and rain连起来分别是句子的谓语和地点状语。
